Support for Schools

HISP Teaching School Hub would like to say a huge thank you to schools from across the HISP regions for their continued support of and commitment to Initial Teacher Training. As a Teaching School Hub, we want to support the recruitment and retention of high-quality trainee teachers for our regions.

Headteachers’ commitment to ITT is vital. A training school is a stronger school, and through collaboration on ITT, we can work together on ensuring we have a pipeline of high-quality teachers for HISP region schools. School partnerships with ITT providers strengthens the local teacher supply and presents opportunities for teaching staff to develop professionally as teacher educators, such as mentors.

DfE Initial Teacher Training (ITT) reform: Information for schools

The Department for Education has produced a slide deck to support schools in understanding the recent changes to Initial Teacher Training and how this might affect them. The DfE, ITT providers and Teaching School Hubs know what an important role schools play in training teachers and are keen to ensure schools are informed and ready to implement these changes that come into play for 2024-25 delivery, from September 2024.

You can access the DfE slide deck here

We have also produced a summary of the key messages from the DfE slides, which can be accessed here

What is Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) and what does it mean for schools?

In December 2023, the Department for Education published a policy paper about what ITT providers and their partner schools need to know about the new requirements for Intensive Training and Practice (ITAPs).

Please click here to access the ITAP Policy Paper document.

The DfE document provides additional detail to help accredited ITT providers and their partner schools to understand the ITAP element of ITT, and to incorporate it into their ITT curricula in a way that maximises the potential benefits to, and impact on, trainees’ practice and understanding.
