  • NPQ Senior Leadership (NPQSL) - develop your leadership knowledge and expertise to improve outcomes for teachers and pupils in your school.
Early headship coaching offer (EHCO):

If you are in your first 5 years of headship, you may also be eligible for the early headship coaching offer.

This targeted one-year support package has been tailored to the needs of new headteachers. It provides un-assessed structured support, coaching and networking opportunities based on the best available evidence about what makes an effective headteacher.

To take the early headship coaching offer, you need to be doing or have done the headship NPQ and be in your first five years of headship.

NPQs are developed in collaboration with the sector, informed by the best available research and evidence endorsed by the Education Endowment Foundation

Each NPQ is underpinned by a content framework that sets out what participants should know and be able to do after completing an NPQ. NPQ training providers use these frameworks to design their courses.

If you pass your NPQ, you can access your teaching qualifications to get your certificate.

Course Eligibility:

NPQ for Leading Primary Mathematics (NPQLPM)

Before applying for this NPQ, you should have a secure understanding of mastery approaches to teaching maths from the Teaching for Mastery programme, or an equivalent programme. Applicants should have completed a minimum of one year of the DfE's Teaching for Mastery programme, delivered by the national network of Maths Hub and co-ordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), or have secure mastery expertise from another equivalent programme. Those with a knowledge of mastery approaches to teaching mathematics will also be eligible for this NPQ  

NPQ for Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL): You need to have a full and relevant qualification to at least level 3. Full and relevant qualifications are defined as qualifications that demonstrate depth and level of learning appropriate to specified outcomes of full early years, childcare or playwork qualifications. The qualification should have valid, reliable assessment and awarding procedures and must include an element of assessed performance.

You also need to be, or be aspiring to be, one of a:

  • manager of private, voluntary and independent nursery,
  • headteacher or leader of a school-based or maintained nursery,
  • childminder with leadership responsibilities

You need to be, or be employed by, one of a: 

  • maintained nursery school in England 
  • pre-school class or nursery that’s part of a maintained school in England 
  • pre-school class or nursery that’s part of an independent school in England providing free early years entitlements places 
  • nursery that is registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register 
  • childminder registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register, or with a registered childminder agency
