Salterns Academy Trust: reflections from engaging with the golden-thread suite of national professional development with HISP Teaching School Hub.

Schools and Multi Academy Trusts (MATs) are now in the third year of accessing ECF-based training courses and the reformed suite of NPQs to develop their teacher and leader workforce. HISP Teaching School Hub is proud to work in partnership with Salterns Academy Trust in Portsmouth to provide Appropriate Body Services, ECF-based training and access to the full suite of National Professional Qualifications for teachers and leaders across their academies.

Salterns Academy Trust have used the golden-thread suite as a core part of their professional development offer for teachers and leaders to improve their knowledge and expertise and address wider school and/or trust development priorities. Click here to read a case study from Salterns which summarises how, as a trust, they:

  • have identified teacher and leader development priorities and utilised the ECF and NPQs to address these

  • made the ECF a core part of their teacher development and school improvement strategy

  • made the specialist and leadership NPQs a core part of their teacher development and school improvement strategy

  • plan to use ECF and NPQs moving forward to continue to grow its staff and schools

This case study belongs to a larger bank of communication materials which the Department for Education asked the Teaching School Hubs Council to source from the Teaching School Hub network. The intention is for them to be used to support recruitment activity across the country and to be used as a concrete example of how schools and trusts are utilising the learning from the golden-thread suite of national professional development.
